Family Fun at Knott’s Spooky Farm

Knott’s Spooky Farm has always been a favorite of our family. Not to be confused with Scary Farm, Spooky Farm isn’t scary at al,  and is geared towards kids ages 4-12. Dressing up in costumes, going trick-or-treating, and enjoying the Farm all decorated for Halloween is so much fun. It’s always #1 on our family’s Fall bucket list…because of course, we LOVE Knott’s, and two…the whole family can enjoy it. If you have never been to Knott’s Spooky Farm, this year is the time to go. It’s happening now at Knott’s Berry Farm on weekends during the month of October and on Halloween. It’s even better than last year, with even more to do. Best of all, its included in the cost of admission.

Insider Tips for Knott’s Spooky Farm

Let me share all the fun you can enjoy at Spooky Farm, along with some insider tips to make the day more fun. First of all, I recommend going on Sunday if you want it to be a little less crowded. It most likely will be a bit crowded during Spooky Farm, but if you aren’t planning on doing a full day of rides, the Spooky Farm activities aren’t busy at all.

Make sure to pick up a map on your way into the park, so you know what happening at Spooky Farm, and where are the Halloween Stations are. There are trick-or-treat stations, fun shows, Halloween activities and more marked on the map.

This year, the kids wanted to dress up in a PEANUTS gang theme for Spooky Farm. And just so you know, anyone can dress up at Knott’s. Their costumes were pretty easy to make…except for Woodstock, which I made from a sewing pattern many years ago. But if you really wanted to dress up like Woodstock, you could get a yellow shirt and a yellow hat online, and glue some yellow feathers to them. a pair of black legging and shoes, and you will be all set to go as Woodstock.

For Charlie Brown, we purchased a Charlie Brown shirt at the Knott’s souvenir shop, and paired with shorts, socks and shoes. For Linus, I got a simple red t-shirt and drew lines across it with a black felt tip marker. Then we paired it with Linus’s signature blanket and black shorts.

For Snoopy, I glued a large black spot to the back of a white t-shirt, then colored in the color with a red felt tip marker. for the tail, I cut two tail shaped pieces of white felt, and sewed them together on two sides. Then I stuffed them with stuffing and had sewed to the shirt. A pair of baseball pants finished off the outfit. The large head was actually made for us when I had the Woodstock costume made, but we found it to be too much hassle at the park, so we purchased Snoop ears at the Knott’s Souvenir shop. They are so cute and can be worn all year round.

Now that I’ve shown you our costumes, it’s time to go Trick-Or-Treating. During Spooky Farm kids can go trick or treating through the streets of Knott’s. This is the first year that Dani is able to walk and trick-or-treat on her own, so it was fun for the whole family to help her through the park.

The Ghost Town monsters pass out the candy to the kids all day long. And don’t worry about bringing your own trick-or-treat bucket because Knott’s will give the kids treat bags when they enter the park. The less stuff you have to bring the better.

If you put in the work to wear a costume, then you must enter The Peanuts Costume Contest. This fun costume contest is held at the Camp Snoopy Theatre. And for an insider tip, the more creative you are with your costume, the better chance you will have to win. And let me tell you, the host of the costume contest is pretty funny. He tells great jokes to entertain the parents!

Snoopy, Lucy and Charlie Brown all pick their favorite costumes, so you have three chances to win. Everyone who wants to enter, lines up and gets their chance on stage. Don’t be late to the contest or you’ll miss your chance to enter.

Here is my gang up on the stage dressed up as the Peanuts Gang. Although we didn’t win, it was so much fun.

Did you know that you can visit Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang dress up for Halloween? There is a meet and greet area located by Snoopy’s Red Baron airplanes. The best time to go is right after one of the Camp Snoopy Shows. After the shows, they usually escort some of the characters out. So jump in line and be the first to get your photo taken.

If you want some hands on fun, make a visit the Creepy Critters of Calico. Inside the Livery Stable in Ghost Town the are a bunch creepy little critters such as bugs, spiders, beetles and turtles. Make sure to say hi to the skeleton horse as you walk in.

You can even touch a giant boa constrictor. No thank you!

Have you ever seen a lizard with a hat?

There is even a rat town where you even pet and play with them.

You know me and fun treats. I am always on the hunt to find the most Instagramable treats in Orange County. Knott’s Berry Farm has plenty of Spooky Treats for Halloween. You will get the best selection at one of the Knott’s Bakeries that are located just outside the park, and inside the park next to Ghost Rider. There will be cookies, cupcakes, donuts, candy and more.

Our favorite are the Halloween donuts. You can even purchase them on your way into the park at the Knott’s Bakery Express located near the security lines.

Year round, Knott’s offers Snoopy Cookies, but during Halloween, you can get Snoopy Vampire Cookies. Oh so cute.

If you had over to Ghost Town, you can find special Halloween Churros at the Churro Factory, or get a Halloween treat at the Calico Candy Store.

I mentioned before, you don’t have to do rides to enjoy Spooky Farm. There are plenty of non-ride activities. In Calico Square, you can visit the Great Pumpkin Patch, and enjoy some down time coloring Halloween Snoopy pages. There is pumpkin decorating and cookie decorating as well!

Finally, make sure to check out some of the Halloween Entertainment at Knott’s Spooky Farm. There are family friendly shows happening all around the park. There is Spooky Story Time and the Calliope Cancert at the Bird Cage Theater.

The “Monsters Are Coming” Stage Show at happening Camp Snoopy Theatre, and the astonishing Magician at the Calico Saloon! These shows are great for all ages, and give you the perfect chance to rest your legs after trick-or-treating through the streets of Knott’s.

You also want to stop and get measured for you coffin! Well, not really, but its fun nonetheless.

As you can see, you can make an entire day enjoying the seasonal offerings of Knott’s Spooky Farm. It’s just one of the Seasons of Fun the Knott’s has during the year. You can enjoy them all by purchasing a Knott’s Season Pass…such a great deal if you want to check out Knott’s for Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

How to Celebrate Your Birthday at Knott’s Berry Farm

this year i had a special request from my middle son. he wanted to celebrate his 12th birthday at Knott’s Berry Farm with six of his friends. of course the answer was yes, as Knott’s Berry Farm is one of our family’s favorite places to be, and since we have annual passes, we wouldn’t have to buy tickets for ourselves, just our friends. i was so excited to celebrate my little guy at Knott’s and we ended up having the perfect party with his friends.

here are some insider tips on How to Celebrate Your Birthday at Knott’s Berry Farm.

Get a Happy Birthday Button

did you know that Knott’s Berry Farm gives free birthday buttons to those celebrating their birthday at Knott’s? well, they do! just head over to Guest Services, located in Ghost Town near the lockers, and tell them you are celebrating your birthday. they will customize a birthday button with your name on it for you to wear around the park and keep as a keepsake. this way, everyone will know it’s your birthday. and many of the employees in the park will stop you and wish your a Happy Birthday.

Wear Some Happy Birthday Snoopy Ears

now that you have your birthday button, i also suggest getting the Happy Birthday Snoopy Ears. you can purchase them in the Snoopy’s Headquarters right outside the park, at the General Store in Ghost Town or Snoopy’s Camp Store in Camp Snoopy. they are reasonably priced and make extra special photos for your birthday.

Get Fast Lane Passes for Your Party

now it’s time for some rides. the rides are some of the best things at Knott’s, but you’d probably rather skip the lines for your special day. i suggest if you can, splurge on Fast Lane Passes to let you skip some of the lines….especially the big roller coasters. this way you are your friends will get to go on the most rides possible!

Get a Birthday Cake at Knott’s

did you know that Knott’s Berry Farm sells birthday cakes! they actually sell all kinds of cakes…that are pretty tasty if i do say so myself. i would say this is Knott’s best kept secret. their bakery has so many great cakes and cupcakes of all flavors, that you can even have customize with a “Happy Birthday” message. the prices are pretty great too. during my son’s party at Knott’s, i stopped into the Farm bakery, and they customized a cake for me on the spot. it was really cute too…with a Snoopy’s face and colorful confetti. just perfect for his party.

you can pick up Knott’s Berry Farm cakes at the Mrs. Knott’s Bakery Express outside of Knott’s in the California Marketplace, or at the Ghost Town Bakery near Guest Services. you can call ahead to get a specific cake, or take your chances and get what they have. either way, i am sure you will be happy with your cake.

i am so happy Kyle decided to celebrate his birthday at Knott’s. it ended up being a very special day with his friends and family. and the little added birthday touches from Knott’s made are time celebrating extra special.

The 2018 Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival

last week we headed to the opening weekend of the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival. it is one of Knott’s Berry Farm’s Seasons of Fun! it also happens to be one of the tastiest seasons. we LOVE boysenberries….they are delicious. and did you know that they originated at Knott’s?!!! Walter Knott created the boysenberry using a cross of raspberries, blackberries, and loganberries. the results were tasty. from the time i was little until now, it’s still my favorite berry…especially in the pie form. which you can totally get by the slice or whole pie at the boysenberry festival. but there is a whole lot more than just boysenberry pie at the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival.

this year the Boysenberry Festival is happening from March 16th, through April 8th. that’s three weeks of boysenberry fun. and there is more than just boysenberry food happening at the Boysenberry Festival. there are boysenberry merchandise vendors, boysenberry shows and boysenberry games to play. there is something for everyone…especially if you like to eat. plus the entire park is decorated for spring, with spring flowers and boysenberry boxes. there are many places to get some great photos.

this year, the Boysenberry Tasting Card is better than ever. for just $30, you get 8 tastes of boysenberry foods. this year’s choices are – Slow cooked boysenberry short rib, boysenberry pierogis, boysenberry chicken wongs, boysenberry coconut macaroon, boysenberry elote, boysenberry hummus, boysenberry cheese quesadilla, and boysenberry sausage on a bun.

in years past, you had to get one of each item. but this year, you can double up on something if you wish not to try a certain item. the tasting cards come with tear-away tickets that you can use to get each tasting. this is great for me since i am vegetarian and would not choose to get the meat items. so i got extra elote and quesadillas!

the boys and i had a blast trying all the new items this year. one of our favorites was the Boysenberry Elote. fire-roasted corn on the cob with boysenberry butter, boysenberry mayonnaise and parmesan cheese. it was fantastic!

our second favorite were the Boysenberry Quesadillas. they come with sour cream and a spicy chipotle boysenberry sauce. i especially loved the sauce.

the bigger boys tried out the Boysenberry Short Ribs, Boysenberry Chicken Wings and Boysenberry Pierogies. of course they loved them.

there is only one dessert item on the tasting card this year – a boysenberry macaroon. we all love coconut, so this was a favorite of all of ours, especially little miss Dani Kat.

with our bellies stuffed with boysenberry treats, we decided to walk around Ghost Town and check out the boysenberry merchandise from the different vendors. we got to watch one of the street shows with the Knott’s cowboys. it was super silly…and the kids loved it. everyone got to be a part of the show.

we also explored the old Calico train and the old water pump. are my kids to only ones that ALWAYS have to stop and pump the water?!!!

it had to be one of the most perfect days that we’ve had a Knott’s. the weather, the food, the boysenberries. that’s why we love the Boysenberry Festival so much. you can bet we will be back multiple times during spring break. thanks Knott’s for the best food festival in the west….the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival is simply the BEST!!!!

Knott’s Berry Farm PEANUTS Celebration

this year, we were so excited to find out that Knott’s Berry Farm added the all-new PEANUTS Celebration to their Seasons of Fun! we love that Knott’s has different seasons of the year to enjoy holidays such as Halloween and Christmas, as well as the boysenberries and summer. but for the first time they have introduced the PEANUTS Celebration – a month-long celebration dedicated to the beloved PEANUTS characters. we weren’t sure what to expect, but but we knew we would love it because the PEANUTS Gang is just so darn cute and Snoopy already has won our hearts.

so let’s get down to business…how was the PEANUTS Celebration?

SO. MUCH. FUN.

and we are gonna share all about it right now!

first, when we walked into the park, we found the best photo opportunities. you could literally jump into one of the comics.

then we headed into Ghost Town to check out what was happening at the PEANUTS Celebration there. it looks like at the trees had turned to kite eating trees! so many kites found in the trees.

we heard that Pig Pen from the PEANUTS Gang would be making an appearance at the Livery Stable. so we wanted to meet him since he will only be visiting Knott’s during the PEANUTS Celebration.

when we headed into the Livery Stable, we not only got to meet Pig Pen, but also his little piggy friends and a couple of horses and a donkey!

then we headed over to the Bird Cage Theater for the PEANUTS Sketch School. this was probably one of our favorite things to do at the PEANUTS Celebration. everyone was given a sketch pad and were taught by the Knott’s residence art teacher how to draw one of the PEANUTS Gang. during each session, a different character was taught. my kids could have stayed there all day.

even Dani joined in!

after our drawing lesson, we check out Town Hall were there were pieces of artwork borrowed from the Charles Schultz Museum on display.

then the big boys wanted to go on the Log Ride, so Dani and i headed over to Knott’s Charleston Circle Fountain to see if we could see the new PEANUTS Trolley. we were just in time.

the Peanuts Trolley takes the PEANUTS Gang to different locations in the park. at Charleston Circle, the jumped off and started dancing with the guests to fun music. we all danced around the fountain with musical instruments and ribbon wands with Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Sally!

then they gave everyone a penny to throw into the fountain. we all made a wish and threw them in.

playing with the PEANUTS Gang was so fun and magical. we never wanted it to end. but we managed to work up and appetite, so we got a few of the special PEANUTS themed treats that were being offered in the park exclusive for the PEANUTS Celebration. my favorite was the Charlie Brownie.

over in Campy Snoopy there were lots of Instagrammable opportunities and fun photo opps, as well a fun new show at the Campy Snoopy Theater featuring songs, dancing and the answer to the age old question – how many blockheads does it take to kick a football?! also, you can take a ride on the Grand Sierra Railroad and take a trip to Beagle Bonanza.

Fiesta Village was also ready for the PEANUTS Celebration. Sally and Lucy were introducing the dancing of Mexico in traditional Mexican dresses and music.

in Calico Park, we met up with Linus and Franklin to join the Cowboy Jamboree. during the day, kids can participate in fun games.

we rested our legs while we watched the show “The Music Goes ‘Round and Around” on the Calico Mine Stage. it was a great show. at night there is also Woodstock’s Music Festival with live music from The Jelly of the Month Club!

all this fun was exhausting. there is so much to do at the PEANUTS Celebration that we didn’t get to do everything. it was a great day.

luckily we are able to go to Knott’s PEANUTS Celebration multiple times. we have Season Passes, so we can go anytime we want. there are no blackout dates, and the price for an entire year is VERY reasonable. plus you can go to other Seasons of Fun events such as:

The Boysenberry Festival
Ghost Town Alive!
Knott’s Spooky Farm
Knott’s Merry Farm

there many fun things to enjoy at Knott’s!
