Getting Creative at the X Games

By Jill Parkin • Published: Aug 21, 2013 · Updated: May 6, 2019

xgames-staples-centerwith 3 boys in the house and a daddy that loves extreme sports like skateboarding, surfing and BMX, a chance to go to the X Games at the Staples Center was a dream come true. i had a couple of excited little boys who were thrilled to get to go this month!

they had the chance to see some of their favorite skaters compete in the vert and street skating competitions and then enjoyed some fun and exciting action around the X Games campus. at the X Games, not only can you see some amazing athletic talents, but you also get to see the creativity that goes hand-in-hand with extreme sports. Creativity in the sense that the athletes can express their own personal style in the tricks and execution of their own personal extreme sport. AND creativity in the sense that goes into the design, colors and aesthetics of their gear and fashion choices.

i loved that my boys got to experience this first-hand and that they got to try out new things, explore ways they could be creative with sports, and feel the creative vibe the X Games brings. they even got to try BMX biking and create a flip book of themselves riding the bikes.

they tried rock climbing! experiencing the thrill of making it to the top, learning skill such as problem solving and perseverance are great life skills.

they got to check out some amazing custom designed surf boards. Just look at the creativity that has gone into the paint job and shaping of this board.

And checking out some custom skateboards was definietly a highlight since they love to skateboard.

even HEX Bugs made it to the X Games. we have never played with these little guys before, but the boys had a blast building tunnels and path for the HEX Bugs to climb around in.

and if that wasn't enough, they even played some fun X BOX games......

and charged up all their electronics in the Verizon Suite. here is my oldest checking out the X Games with the WatchESPN app powered by Verizon.

the boys had an amazing time at the X Games experiencing the creativity! and here is your chance to get creative!

verizon-conquer-creativity-contest

as a salute to the Southern California way of life, the FiOS SoCal Experience is offering locals a unique opportunity to design and win lifestyle staples of SoCal living.....skateboards, surfboards and beach bikes!  The "Conquer your Creativity" sweepstakes give you a chance to virtually design graphics for a beach bike, skate or surfboard, and enter those designs in the sweepstakes. you can even integrate the colors you love, personal photos and text into the  designs.

each week, one sweepstakes entry will be randomly selected, and the winner will receive the item they entered - a surfboard, skateboard or beach cruiser - with graphics inspired by their very own design. the winning sweepstakes items will be custom-made by local craftsmen, including surfboard shaper Josh Oldenburg. hurry...the contest ends August 31st.

{disclosure: this is not a sponsored post. my family received tickets to the X Games to experience the creativity. all thought and opinions are a gazillion times my own!}
