Teaching My Kids to Give Back to the Community: Elmer’s Bag It Forward

one thing i have been trying to teach my kids this summer is giving back to the community. i really want them to understand what giving back to community means and how it feels to give to others. that is why i was especially excited to participate in the Elmer’s Bag it Forward Campaign. where you buy and donate quality school supplies to those in need.
the first day of school is right around the corner and the back-to-school supply sections are already up in the stores. my kiddies have been anxious for me to buy them new school supplies for the new school year. so we ran over to Walmart. Their prices on school supplies are awesome, and that way we were able to get a lot more school supplies to “Bag It Forward!”
We decided to Bag it Forward to one of our friends who is a teacher. she works at a title 1 school where many children in her class can’t afford to buy school supplies. Often times she has to buy them for the children in her class. did you know on average, teachers spend $356 of their personal money on school supplies every year. we were able to get her pencils, glue sticks and crayons for her entire class along with some helpful items such as Kleenex, glue, hand sanitizer and post-its.

We also found the Elmer’s school supply holder, and downloaded the Elmer’s 1st Day App. It’s a FREE app for your smart phone that allows parents to share pictures of their kids first day with their family and friends, or teachers to share their classroom or student’s projects throughout the year.  You can make custom keepsakes, add personalized quotes and dates, make slideshows and organize your photos into albums. this app makes it easier to share 1st day moments with your loved ones…Capture, Create & Share!

The best thing about the Elmer’s first day app is that for every photo uploaded, Elmer’s will donate one product to The Kids in Need Foundation (KINF), up to 200,000 products. That will help a lot of kids! PLUS, X-Acto Designer Series and Walmart are offering a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World! the entry form can be found on the 1st Day App site.

Here is a picture i took with the app of my kiddies Bagging It Forward! i asked them how it felt to help others in need, they said “it feels nice and warm,” and the are already asking to do it again.
By simply picking up an extra bag of school supplies for a child or teacher our life, we can make a huge impact! everyone can #BagItForward! You can read other Bag it Forward stories like mine by visiting the Bag it Forward Pinterest page.
