Back to School: Teacher Gift

have you wondered where i have been lately?  well, getting the kids ready to go back to school has consumed my time this week.  we had to get one more playdate in, a beach day in, and we went to the Discovery Science Center. besides being completely worn out….the heat has taken it toll on me. wow, talk about being worn out just by walking out to get mail in this heat. i guess i shouldn’t be complaining….the weather here is perfect 90% of the time : )

and, every year on the first day of school, i like to give the teachers a little gift. i like to include a note letting them know that i am willing to help them if they need it.

the past two years i have made caramel apples. the fun thing is…that we use pencils as the stick. unsharpened of course. then i package them up with cellophane and make a little note that looks like a chalkboard to tie on with a bow. they turned out adorable this year….and super simple.
to make the caramel apples, all you have to do is melt the caramel on a double boiler with a dash of milk. instead of using a stick, use an unsharpened pencil. they work great! roll a cold, dry apple in the caramel and then press M&M’s into it. place on greased waxed paper. when cooled, drizzle white chocolate over it.

and then to make the chalkboard note, i just printed out some wording using the Microsoft Word. i wrote using white text on top of a black box. then i cut it out and glued it on top of brown cardstock. then punched a hole in the corner and tied it on with a  ribbon.
