The 2018 Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival

last week we headed to the opening weekend of the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival. it is one of Knott’s Berry Farm’s Seasons of Fun! it also happens to be one of the tastiest seasons. we LOVE boysenberries….they are delicious. and did you know that they originated at Knott’s?!!! Walter Knott created the boysenberry using a cross of raspberries, blackberries, and loganberries. the results were tasty. from the time i was little until now, it’s still my favorite berry…especially in the pie form. which you can totally get by the slice or whole pie at the boysenberry festival. but there is a whole lot more than just boysenberry pie at the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival.

this year the Boysenberry Festival is happening from March 16th, through April 8th. that’s three weeks of boysenberry fun. and there is more than just boysenberry food happening at the Boysenberry Festival. there are boysenberry merchandise vendors, boysenberry shows and boysenberry games to play. there is something for everyone…especially if you like to eat. plus the entire park is decorated for spring, with spring flowers and boysenberry boxes. there are many places to get some great photos.

this year, the Boysenberry Tasting Card is better than ever. for just $30, you get 8 tastes of boysenberry foods. this year’s choices are – Slow cooked boysenberry short rib, boysenberry pierogis, boysenberry chicken wongs, boysenberry coconut macaroon, boysenberry elote, boysenberry hummus, boysenberry cheese quesadilla, and boysenberry sausage on a bun.

in years past, you had to get one of each item. but this year, you can double up on something if you wish not to try a certain item. the tasting cards come with tear-away tickets that you can use to get each tasting. this is great for me since i am vegetarian and would not choose to get the meat items. so i got extra elote and quesadillas!

the boys and i had a blast trying all the new items this year. one of our favorites was the Boysenberry Elote. fire-roasted corn on the cob with boysenberry butter, boysenberry mayonnaise and parmesan cheese. it was fantastic!

our second favorite were the Boysenberry Quesadillas. they come with sour cream and a spicy chipotle boysenberry sauce. i especially loved the sauce.

the bigger boys tried out the Boysenberry Short Ribs, Boysenberry Chicken Wings and Boysenberry Pierogies. of course they loved them.

there is only one dessert item on the tasting card this year – a boysenberry macaroon. we all love coconut, so this was a favorite of all of ours, especially little miss Dani Kat.

with our bellies stuffed with boysenberry treats, we decided to walk around Ghost Town and check out the boysenberry merchandise from the different vendors. we got to watch one of the street shows with the Knott’s cowboys. it was super silly…and the kids loved it. everyone got to be a part of the show.

we also explored the old Calico train and the old water pump. are my kids to only ones that ALWAYS have to stop and pump the water?!!!

it had to be one of the most perfect days that we’ve had a Knott’s. the weather, the food, the boysenberries. that’s why we love the Boysenberry Festival so much. you can bet we will be back multiple times during spring break. thanks Knott’s for the best food festival in the west….the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival is simply the BEST!!!!

Our Visit to Knott’s Spooky Farm 2017

one of our favorite things about Knott’s Berry Farm is that on weekends and Halloween Day in the month of October, Knott’s Berry Farm becomes Knott’s Spooky Farm!!! this is where the kiddies and those who are too scared to go to Scary Farm can enjoy the Halloween festivities at the park. last weekend, we were finally able to get to Knott’s Spooky Farm!  this year, the whole family was able to make it, even some of our cousins…and we had a blast.

one of the best things is that the kids get to dress up in their costumes, which is always fun. there are so many Halloween decorations up at Knott’s that we got some really great photos.

we love that Knott’s Spooky Farm uses the whole park for a day of not too scary family fun. there is so much to do!

this year the trick-or-treating takes you through the streets of Ghost Town. there are different stations scattered throughout Ghost Town, and each one has a cute door and doorbell, candy, and a friendly Ghost Town character to greet you.

the Ghost Town monsters were great and super fun. they weren’t scary at all, and were happy to pose for a picture or play with the kids for a moment.

after you’re done trick-or-treating you can head to the Livery Stable and hang with these fun scarecrows…

or check out the Creepy Critters of Ghost Town. i am definitely not a fan of bugs, but the rats were actually cute!

plus, even the horses where in the Halloween spirit.

next you will want to head to Calico Park where you can visit the Pumpkin Patch and even decorate a real pumpkin for only $5.

it was then time for our favorite part of the day. a ride on the Timber Mountain Log Ride which has been transformed into a Halloween Hootenanny. Timber Mountain has some mysterious creatures that have entered the woods and caverns. there are fun surprises like the Calico Coffin Creeper Band, the town’s green witch and a labyrinth of Jack-o-lanterns at the bottom of Skull Mountain.

another annual favorite of the day was Snoopy’s Costume Contest and Dance Party. the kids were all dressed up and loved being able to show off their costumes to the crowd and dance with their favorite Peanuts characters. PLUS…the Camp Spooky Theatre not only holds the Peanut’s Costume Contest, it also has a great Halloween show called “The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown!” i suggest saving seats early, as the theater was packed with excited people. it’s the perfect way to rest your feet after all the Ghost Town trick or treating.

also within Camp Snoopy, you can “take a trip to Camp Spooky” on the Grand Sierra Railroad and take an adventure with the Peanuts Gang. there are 2D and 3D themed characters and effects. it’s a train ride full of Halloween fun.

in Fiesta Village, its a Dia De Los Muertos Celebration! there is a walk through village with interactive and educational activities, photo ops and face painting.

did i mention that we got a Graveyard Funnel Cake!!!! YUM YUM

the hubby and i had a great time taking my boys and their cousins around Knott’s Spooky Farm for the day. not only did we enjoy all of the Knott’s Spooky Farm events, we also enjoyed the classics like the Steam Engine and Camp Snoopy rides. PLUS, the was Miss Dani Kat’s first time at Knott’s Spooky Farm, so it was fun getting pictures of her dressed up. it was such a fun day….not too crowded at all.

you can visit Knott’s Spooky Farm any weekend in the month of October. it’s free with admission, so it’s a great way to get into the Halloween spirit and not break the bank. speaking of which, why not upgrade your ticket and get an annual pass for next year. it’s such a great deal and there are no black out dates!!!!!

{This is not a sponsored post. We received complimentary tickets to Knott’s Spooky Farm to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.}

Knott’s Berry Farm’s 75th Anniversary of Ghost Town

Ghost Town Alive at Knotts

there’s a whole lot of new things happening at Knott’s Berry Farm right now! i am so excited to share that Knott’s Berry Farm’s Ghost Town is celebrating its 75th anniversary!!!!! in 1941, Walter Knott set out to build a small diversion for hungry guests waiting for a table at his wife, Cordelia’s, Chicken Dinner Restaurant, so Ghost Town was created. the overwhelming popularity of the restaurant and adjacent Ghost Town led to the creation of the Knott’s Berry Farm that exists today, 75 years later.

Ghost Town has been spruced up to celebrate this special anniversary, and is celebrating in a big way this summer with the new interactive entertainment experience, Ghost Town Alive! now through September 5, guests at the Farm get to play a role in new stories and adventures unfolding daily in the old west town of Calico. plus, for the first time ever, the doors to the legendary shops and buildings around Ghost Town are opening to allow guests to explore locations like the Sheriff’s Office and Barbershop.

this summer during the celebration, an incredible line-up of all new summer entertainment is happening, including the explosive new Wild West Stunt Show, the high kickin’ new Calico Saloon Show, and the wild and wonderful Circus of Wonders on the Calico Mine Stage. there will be Hoe Downs in Calico Square, lessons taught in the old school house, and lots of interactive activities.

Ghost Town at Knott's

my son Kyle and i had a special date to visit the Knott’s Berry Farm’s Ghost Town 75th anniversary celebration, and when we entered the town, we were greeted by all the folks of Ghost Town.Ghost Town FunKnott's Characters

parked near the Sheriff’s Office, this cell serves as a photo opportunity for Guests until put into use by the Lawman or Deputies. we also visited with the oldest resident of Ghost Town and mentioned a few key words to unlock a few of the town’s secrets.

the folks of Ghost Town kept giving us notes and tasks to do, such as visiting the sheriff or guarding the jail.

the post office is a center of activity on Main Street. this is where the working telegraph is located. guests may send and receive telegrams for Characters or for themselves, and may help the Post Master by decoding telegrams. pick up mail for Characters or write a letter that may be placed in a Character’s mailbox….and be sure to help the Pony Express Rider deliver packages and stay on time.

Ghost Town 75th Anniversary Fun

other fun activities include heading to the Newspaper Shop where you can press to create and etch your own copy of the town newspaper. guests may also be sent by the Editor to gather quotes from town characters for the next addition of the “Ghost Town Gazette” that is printed and distributed several times throughout the day. or interact with stable hands and live farm animals at The Barn, listen to a musical act that performs on a small outdoor stage as a part of the Town’s Celebration Festivities, volunteer at the Fire Department, or head to the Dress Shop where you can use tin templates to create and color dress designs, use fabric swatches to add to pre-printed dress designs mounted on the wall, or help operate an actual loom. plus help the stores spinner, and help the owner design a dress for her famous sister to wear at the town’s celebration party. how fun does this sound!

on June 11th, the new GhostRider opened with new coaster trains galloping over 4,500 feet of new track. since 1998, GhostRider has been giving white-knuckle rides to even the toughest cowpokes. it looms over Ghost Town as the tallest, fastest and longest wooden roller coaster on the West Coast. all 4,533 feet of track have been replaced and many of the curves and banks re-profiled to deliver a pulse pounding ride across the western sky. when riders accelerate down the first 108 foot drop in one of three all new “ore car” coaster trains and hit speeds of over 55 miles per hour, they’ll understand why the west just got a whole lot wilder!Ghost Rider at Knott'ssince i can’t ride roller coaster…boo hoo, i sent Kyle on Ghost Rider. he normal doesn’t love roller coasters, but he said he loved the ride. it’s now smoother, super fast and extra fun…according to his description!

we also became genuine citizens of Calico Ghost Town. the Calico Town Hall is the gathering spot for elections and other politically based functions at Knott’s. guests can participate in Town politics by voting, campaigning, drawing a campaign poster, and even registering as a Citizen of Calico.

our time at Ghost Town was coming to an end, but before we left, we stopped at the Calico Candy Shop. it smelled so heavenly and we almost couldn’t resist the homemade fudge and salt water taffy.

Knott's Candy StoreKnott's Fudgethere was just one last thing we had to do before we headed out for the day. just outside the park, the historic Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant has reopened following an extensive restoration. i am so impressed with how it came out. it really is beautiful and i am sure that you will love it just as much as i do.

Panning for Gold at Knott’s Berry Farm

did you know that Knott’s has many fun experiences that are also educational available for guests around the park. Panning for gold is one of my family’s favorites. Panning for Gold is located near the Churro Factory and in front of the Knott’s Cemetery in Ghost Town. it costs only $10 per person to pan for gold, and tickets can be purchased at the Toy Store which is located a few doors down near the Haunt Museum.

it’s fun to pretend you are traveling back in time,  experiencing the life of a prospector trying to stake their claim. it’s also a great way to have some hands-on fun with history at Knott’s.

when you arrive at the Panning for Gold area, a Knott’s Gold Prospector will show you the ropes, tell you interesting facts about the gold rush era as well as teaching you how to pan for gold. It is simple as filling your mining pan with sand and swirling it gently beneath the water. How to Pan for Real Gold at Knott's

this is where the fun begins. Swirling, swirling, swirling. The sand gradually leaves your pan; it’s a slow but exciting process, as you never know how much gold you are going to end up with. My boys were so focused on getting to the gold and were intrigued about the entire process…in fact we all were. How to Pan for Real 22K Gold at Knott's Berry Farm

EUREKA!  finally, after all the sand has been swirled out from your pan, you will be left with some 22 Karat gold flakes. Yes!  it is real gold.

Knott's Panning for gold expereince

the Knott’s prospector will place your load into a little glass vial for you to keep. i have heard of families bringing their vials of gold back to Knott’s year after to year, adding their finds to the vial while panning for gold each visit. What a nice souvenir filled with memories it is.

Knott's Panning for real gold expereince

my boys thoroughly loved panning for gold, and not only was it fun, it was also an hands-on, educational experience. I know that we will be more stops to pan for gold at Knott’s in the future.Knott's Panning for gold

you can learn about how to pan for gold at Knott’s by watching this video. i recommend this Panning for Gold experience for all ages, kids and adult alike would enjoy it.
